A List Apart Survey 2009 – For People Who Make Websites
I don’t exactly build websites from scratch, but I do my fair share of WordPress stuff, so I didn’t let the “For People Who Make Websites” remark stop me. Check out the 2009 survey.
(Thanks to Liesl Barrell for bringing it to my attention)
Honorable Mention in the 55 Fiction Contest
So the 55 Fiction contest over at The Colors Magazine is over, and congratulations to everyone who participated!
Not to toot my own horn, but I did not do too shabby, myself. In fact, I won an “Noble Citation” award (kind of like an “Honorable Mention”)! Not too shabby at all. My prize is that nifty little graphic to the left, and a chance to be a Featured Writer on The Colors Magazine for an entire month!
Anyway, now that the contest is over, here is my 55 Fiction entry:
Today
by Brian Thomas Clark
Slumping in the chair next to the bed, he watched his father and considered Camus: “Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don’t know.”
Such emptiness in those words. Such a lack of anything, he thought.
And yet, they were a luxury.
He stood, turned off the respirator, and considered the calendar on the wall.

55 Fiction Contest
I recently submitted a “55 Fiction” piece to a contest on TheColorsMagazine.com, a very nice site showcasing some great writing on topics like love, society, fiction and much much more.
The rules of “55 Fiction” are that you must tell a story within 55 words (duh) but maintain a sense of suspense or strong emotion up until the final line, which is essentially supposed to give release or just give the final blast to the story.
Not sure when results will be posted, but I have to say, it was worth it just for the fun of following an extremely strict structure.
Leave comments for the other writers if you like. Very good quality.

New Job, Site Updates, Etc.

This picture has nothing to do with this post, but it has gone viral on the internet in recent days. Since this is mostly an update for the sake of refreshing my site content and letting my 2 readers know I haven’t given up on it, I figured I’d post it.
Back in the saddle with work, so to speak. Found a great new job while continuing to work with clients for House of Copy.
Also working on some updates to my site here, but more importantly, to HouseofCopy.com. We have been working hard on redesign ideas to make the site more user/inquiring-client friendly but also somewhat appealing to the eye.
Be sure to check out WineWelfare.com as well, since there will also be some redesigns coming for that early next year.
Writing quite a lot as well in the midst of everything else, so get ready for a new story and some new articles to pop up.
Oh, I almost forgot, I’m also getting married in October, so, you know, that takes a little planning and work as well.
Thanks for checking in…both of you.
Cheers
I’m Now On Associated Content
I’m starting to write for Associated Content (I know, they aren’t exactly The New York Times, but hey, it’s out there). So head on over to check out my first published article here.
Associated Content is pretty much a media company that wants what you write. They pay you based on pageviews, ad revenue (as in when people click ads on the page where your content appears), and whether or not they think your topic or writing is sellable. Anyone can do it, but you have to be approved by their editors. It’s a good site, and while it won’t make you any real money unless you pump out primo content on an hourly basis, it’s a way to get your name and writing out there and maybe even scrape up a few extra bucks.
More to come soon.
